BRINGING LESSONS TO LIFE

We are passionate about designing and sharing engaging lessons that inspire students and prepare them for life past classroom walls.

PRODUCT ORIENTED EDUCATION

POE is an instructional model designed to engage and involve students in the learning process as producers of knowledge, not mere consumers of teacher-driven lessons. Think Popsicle stick roller coasters teaching kinetics, electric cars illustrating physics and design, homemade children’s books merging art and English skills. POE lessons connect to the world beyond the classroom walls, literally bringing lessons to life.

BEHIND THE SITE

Don has cultivated students for 44 years as a teacher, principal, and superintendent in public schools. In the 1970s as a new teacher, he was armed with a head full of hair and motivation to teach high school social studies in a palatable way. He designed lessons around questions and posed problems requiring his students to learn through collaborative projects and research.

WHY WE ARE HERE

To provide a creative bank of lessons developed to inspire student growth beyond the walls of the classroom. to inspire each other to create meaningful lessons and share them for our common goal. To cultivate classrooms that develop our children into global thinkers, collaborators, and joyous learners. To connect with each other and share our passion for great teaching.

WHAT ELSE

Beyond the repository of POE lessons sortable by content area, this website provides resources and tools to promote student achievement beyond A, B, and C. Teaching the whole child means equally developing those fluent in engineering as those fanatical about welding. It means setting equal expectations of all students without judging their neighborhood, family income or heritage. We want to inspire you.

HOW THIS WORKS

POE lessons are submitted through the website by educators near and far. Don puts on his POE glasses and views the lesson through a student’s lenses. After vetting and organizing, the approved lesson is loaded into the online database and organized by subject. POE-approved lessons are accessible by educators, parents, and extra-eager students through a one-time fee.

REACH US

Don loves a good phone conversation. As any true baby boomer, the tone and dialogue from a good, old-fashioned tête-à-tête most inspires him. You can also reach him via e-mail or snail mail. Head to our contact page for digits and addresses to pick you favorite form of communication.
